Left Handed Acoustic Guitars

November 16th, 2008 Posted in Left Handed Guitar, left handed acoustic guitar

Left handed acoustic guitars are an important group of guitars. Traditionally guitars have been made for right handed playing and left handed players often resort to almost playing the guitar backwards, however you do not have to go to such lengths thanks to the rising popularity of left handed guitars of all types.

Acoustic guitars for left handed players range in price in a similar way to regular guitars. You may also want to look into left handed acoustic guitar accessories when you purchase your guitar.

The difference between a left and right handed guitar is that a left handed one has the freeboard in the right hand and the picking is done with the left hand rather than the right. The strings are also reversed so you could say that seeing a left handed acoustic guitar is like looking in a mirror.

There are quite a number of guitar makers who have delved into the left handed market. These include:

Aria
Cort
Crafter
Dean
Faith
Gibson
Larrivé
Martin
Norman
Seagull
Simon and Patrick
Tanglewood
Vintage
Yamaha

Until recent times it was rather difficult to find a decent left hand guitar, and certainly difficult to find one that you really liked and that suited your playing style. However checking many online stores now will reveal more choices than ever.

One good example of a left handed acoustic guitar is the Simon and Patrick SP12 12 String Acoustic which costs around $750. It is a spectacular looking acoustic guitar designed by Robert Godin. It comes with a solid cedar top and a wild red cherry triple laminate back with a semi gloss finish. The tonal spectrum of this acoustic is impressive.

The Washburn D10SLH is another good choice and costs less at just $360. The Ibanez PF5LECE Left-Handed Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar
For $330 is a very good budget choice for those wanting an acoustic/electric set up.

Left handed acoustic guitars are now widely available and you aren’t just limited to a few choices either. That means you should have no trouble finding the guitar that is right for you.
